Changes I’ve Made To Sleep Better

Most people usually set their ‘resolutions’ to include exercise/eating changes but, to me, sleep is the top priority before any of those others can happen. If I don’t get enough sleep, I can’t help but make poor eating choices, and I definitely don’t end up getting a good workout in. Sleep is crucial for me to live a healthy lifestyle and I am impressed with people who function on only 5 hours of sleep. I didn’t realize moving could take a toll on your sleep until we moved in December and I found myself waking up in the middle of the night, night after night. Aside from being in a totally new environment, I wasn’t exactly in my best shape physically either. Since then, I’ve been sticking to a few new habits and I’ve updated a few of our bedroom pieces to help us get the best sleep possible!

First things first, we upgraded our pillows. My pancake pillow wasn’t cutting it and we had to part ways about a month ago. We were introduced to the brand, SensorPEDIC, and tried out the SensorPEDIC 2 Pack 500 Thread Count Tencil Fiber Bed Pillow (which, by the way, are on MAJOR sale right now — only $52.00 for a 2-pack of King size). These pillows aren’t super expensive or anything but they are plush, comfy, and, overtime, they get even more comfier by the day! My head just sinks into at the end of the day, I pick up one of the books I’m reading, and it’s the best way to end the day! Plus, they are made of botanical and hypoallergenic material.

Once we upgraded our pillows, I made the decision to lower my caffeine intake. I’ve always gone back and forth between decaf and caffeine coffee and, ultimately, I decided it would be healthier for me to limit my caffeine. I love the morning ritual of a warm cup of coffee though so I’m on the search for some good alternatives!

In addition to limiting caffeine, I’ve started to make sure that I get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. Any day where I haven’t gotten 30 minutes of exercise (walking counts), I’ve noticed that I wake up in the middle of the night. Water is another factor that is important to me. I try to drink 2-3 32 oz. bottles of water each day. When I exercise, I automatically drink an extra 32 oz.

Instead of indulging in extra-sweet desserts, I’ve been having a cup of my absolute favorite herbal blend tea from Trader Joe’s, Berries and Cherries! It’s sweet enough to be satisfying after dinner but it is also the most relaxing thing to wrap up the evening with.

Those are the main changes I’ve made lately and they have really helped me sleep a whole lot better. We ordered our first king mattress the other day and we’re trying to figure out how to get it upstairs (it’s SO heavy) but we can’t wait to see what effect that has on our sleep! We’ve never had a king so we can’t wait.

Hope y’all have a good Monday!

xo, Shelby

    1. Of course! This one is SO SO GOOD! You’ve got to pick it up next time you’re in a Trader Joe’s! Although I’m sure any good ‘berry tea’ would be comparable!
