The Outer Banks: Rainy Day Edition

I’m back with one last OBX post for you. If you follow along on my blog, you might have read my top favorite things to do in the Outer Banks a few weeks ago. The majority of that list revolved around outdoor activities because after all, it is the beach! But you never know if you’ll have a rainy day or two on your vacation and there are a lot of hidden spots you’ll want to know about in times like those.

When we were in the OBX, we had one day where it poured down rain. It didn’t stop us from having a great time though and I was surprised to find out about so many hidden gems! These would be perfect for a family or a couple’s trip, and even better for those who like wine!
So, let’s get started…
TRIO – A wine and cheese bar. || [Location: Kitty Hawk] This honestly was probably one of my favorite places where we hung out. TRIO has wine stations with a huge selection from all over the world, over 50 hand cut cheeses, more than 250 beers, gourmet sandwiches, and live music. You could spend hours there. While we were there, we also had the chance to take a “Lushes to Brushes” class which brings me to my next favorite rainy day activity!
Local Color OBX || [Location: Corolla; & various other locations] Attend a “Lushes to Brushes” party and relax while sipping on wine and painting a seascape! I had heard about similar classes before but this was the first time I had actually been a part of one and I loved it! Such a good way to wind down and get in major relaxation mode. You can see their event calendar here.
Red Sky Cafe || [Location: Duck] This lunch spot was my favorite restaurant during the entire trip! Chef Wes made us the most delicious boat of appetizers ranging from shrimp and grits, bacon wrapped scallions, shrimp tacos, seared tuna, and so much more. If you’re in Duck, this is a must-try.
Carolina Designs || If you’re the type to stay at home on a rainy day, you’ve got to check out the homes by Carolina Designs. Our home we stayed in had a pool table, fooseball, entertainment room, huge kitchens, and we could have never left! My idea of a perfect rainy day is renting a Redbox movie and curling up on the couch. A view of the ocean right out of your window doesn’t hurt either.
Shopping || The Outer Banks has a lot of shopping, although we didn’t spend any of our time doing that. Our house was 1 minute away from the Tanger Outlets in Nagshead. You could also check out Jockey’s Ridge Crossing or the cute shops in downtown Manteo!
Oyster Tasting || [Location: Southern Shores] If you’re in the mood for oysters, head to Coastal Provisions Wine and Oyster Bar. I wasn’t a huge fan of oysters but this place changed that! The rest of the food was delicious too! I had their caprese salad as an appetizer and crab pasta for an entree. My goodness, I miss the food we ate that week!
Thanks so much for stopping by! If you have any restaurant recommendations or suggestions for other things to do in the Outer Banks, leave them in the comments!
xo, Shelby
