Picnic at Sanderling Resort

I’ve spent the past few days in the Outer Banks with my sister and it’s been such a nice and peaceful beach getaway. The ocean is always so good for the soul. This is my third time visiting Sanderling Resort in Duck, NC and each time I find new things I love about it. Whether it is a new amenity I discover, or a fun activity I enjoy, I always leave with new experiences and pieces of info I want to share about the area! Growing up, my family only visited the Outer Banks a couple of times and we camped both of those times but, whenever I visit, I always hear from so many people that they grew up coming here with their families every summer. I can definitely see how it’s a great place for families but I also think it’s a great spot for anyone just wanting a getaway and relax. The resort is very peaceful and they even have a ‘tranquility pool’.

My Beach Essentials:

Anyways, on this trip I learned that you can order picnic baskets of delicious meals, pick them up at the resort’s restaurant called ‘Lifesaving Station’ and then take your basket out wherever you want. I also learned that you can request a picnic after your bicycle rides which can overlook the ocean with incredible views! The ‘Picnic Butler Experience’ is Sanderling’s newest amenity and encourages guests to take the signature cruisers out to explore the town of Duck and then indulge in a private picnic with stunning views of the ocean. They even set you up with a bag full of trip essentials: water bottle, lip balm, sunscreen, and a map of spots to see! When your ride is over, your ‘Sanderling Butler’ will greet you with a picnic blanket set up complete with delicious food and refreshing beverages.

Earlier that day, my sister and I took our bikes down into the town of Duck and walked along the boardwalk. Random fact: did you know that Duck Donuts originated here? Anyways, after stopping by so many cute shops and soaking in the views of the sound, we rode our bikes back to the resort since we were getting hungry.

When we got back to the resort, we returned our bikes and then were told that our picnic would be on their Observation Deck overlooking the ocean. They had already set up a picnic blanket, pillows, and our ‘picnic butler’ brought up a basket full of seasonal fresh food and sangria! It couldn’t have been a more beautiful situation. I couldn’t believe how beautiful the views were.

Alex and I ordered two different meals: the Currituck Sound Sunset and the Sanderling Classic. Mine included artisanal cheeses, a crispy baguette, charcuterie selections, dried fruit and nuts, and chocolate covered strawberries. Her’s included a Sanderling Turkey BLT, house chips, fruit, and cookies. It was hard to choose out of the menu though because everything sounded so wonderful. Side note: order the mixed green salad at the Lifesaving Station… it’s incredible! We both ordered it multiple times throughout our stay.

Anyways, we had a great time! You can read my older post about Sanderling Resort here too. We’re back now though and I’m unpacking to repack for a fun trip with TJ this weekend.

Thanks for reading! If you have any questions about our stay, please let me know!

Xo, Shelby

PS a few more of our stay…

The Shoe That Elevates Any Look

Over the past few years, I’ve grown to love shoes. Not just any shoes though… shoes that are just as fashionable as they are comfortable. Lately, I’ve tended to go for more casual looks by throwing on a pair of white sneakers, flats, or espadrille wedges but there is something special about a pair of heels. In particular, these neutral colored Naturalizer ‘Kinsley’ sandals have really impressed me with just how versatile they can be… from pairing them with casual denim to summery dresses to more formal looks, they look good with just about everything! The other day TJ and I went downtown for a smoothie date and I threw on these sandals with my favorite pair of jeans and an oversized button down shirt. I felt instantly 20x more chic and sophisticated and they never even hurt my feet which says a lot! They’re under $100 too so they get bonus points in my book. You can find them at Zappos, which has been my trusted online destination for shoes for years. Anyways, these sandals make looking stylish for summer easy and I love it.

I told you all they look good with everything! I wore them with a little pink summery dress and denim jacket on Mother’s Day which helped elevate the outfit and make it feel a bit less casual but still laid-back and ready for the summer heat. Naturalizer knows what’s up.

I hope you all have a great week! My sister and I came to the Outer Banks today and we’re having a post-graduation sister beach trip before she enters the real world. Our itinerary only has a few things on it but we’re planning on a lot of under-the-beach-umbrella relaxation. Also, the wifi connection isn’t the best so I may be a little MIA.

Celebrating the 10th & Relationship Q&A

This post is sponsored by AVA Grace.

It hit me the other day that TJ and I are entering the last month of our first year of marriage, today actually. I don’t know how in the world this first year has flown by so fast but it’s been the best year of my life, for sure! We got married on June 10th in Charleston late last spring and it was the most magical day. That fact, along with other events spring has in store, had us wanting to open up a bottle of our new favorite wine and have a little early celebration in our backyard now that we’ve completed recent updates to our outdoor space. Cheese, crackers, some rosé on a patio and you’ve got my ideal evening, no matter what the occasion is.

Speaking of wine, AVA Grace recently launched what is now my favorite wine I believe… a crisp and zesty Pinot Grigio rounded out with flavors of honeysuckle and a floral and fruity Rosé. AVA actually means “life” and the brand promises graceful moments with each long-lasting sip making it the ideal wine for special occasions. Whenever it gets warmer outside this time of year, I definitely gravitate to light, fruity, citrus wines and these two are both quite refreshing. We’ll be bringing more of these to my sister’s graduation festivities this weekend and it will be perfect since it is supposed to get pretty hot! I love that they come in cute little cans, too! The cans will be perfect for the cookout on Saturday. You can use this location finder to find out where you can purchase them.

I thought today would be the perfect time to do a relationship Q&A answering some questions about how TJ and I met and how we make time for each other, etc.

When and where did you meet?

Shelby: The first year I joined Delta Gamma, we had a semi-formal and I was date-less before my friends set me up with a guy they knew. He ended up being a great date and a month later we were “official”. That was 8 ½ years ago and we’ve been together ever since!

TJ: We met through mutual friends. Shelby needed a date for her Delta Gamma semi-formal (I still don’t understand how she didn’t have a date, but I got lucky) and our friends set us up. This was sophomore year of college.

How are you most alike?

Shelby: Aside from us always thinking about the exact same things at the same time, we have very similar senses of humor and also find the same things important. It’s hard to explain but I feel like we just have similar souls.

TJ: I think we are most alike in our values. We both value faith, family, and friendship. It was something that we both mentioned in our vows at our wedding, and a reason that keeps us so connected with each other. Also, we love delicious sweets from Trader Joes.

How are you different?

TJ: I think the biggest way we are different is that I am an extrovert and Shelby is an introvert. I am always up for going to hang out with friends, having friends over, seeing family, etc. I feel at times I have to drag Shelby out of the house. I feel her perfect Friday or Saturday night would be curled on the couch in 6 blankets with Colbie by her side. I am all for that scenario, but I do enjoy going to see other people just as much. I will say that, once Shelby is out of the house, she enjoys hanging with everyone just as much as I do and it’s hard for me to get her to come home.

Shelby: TJ differs from me in a few different ways. He is a people person and will want to become every stranger’s best friend. I’m sometimes like that but I also have an introverted side. TJ also is very laid back in most situations and doesn’t get stressed out as easily or at least he doesn’t share that. I tend to share all of my feelings whenever I have a lot on my mind, which is usually the case, and I definitely worry more than he does.

What is the other good and bad at?

Shelby: TJ is really good at making others feel welcome and at home. He’s super fun to be around but he also turns into a cleaning monster on the weekends (also, a good thing). I can’t really think of anything he is bad at.

TJ: Shelby is great at handling a lot of things at once. With her blog, house projects, and our travel, she has a lot of strings being pulled in a lot of directions, but she always manages to stay on top of things. The one thing I would say Shelby is bad at is LAUNDRY! Girl can never get through one load in a day. And if she does get it washed and dried, it usually sits in a basket for a week, haha!

How do you make time for each other?

TJ and Shelby: One thing we do right when I get home from work is go for a walk with each other and Colbie. It usually is a 30-45 minute walk and it is were we talk about our day, what challenged us, our successes, interesting things we’ve read, and how we are going to spend our evening. It is also a great way to get some steps in. There are also times where we keep the TV off at night and spend the evening together reading, working on the blog, or just listening to music and talking.

If you could live anywhere in the world together, where would it be?

Shelby: I love the area we’re in but I will say that if it weren’t for my family being all around here, I wouldn’t mind living right outside of Charleston, SC.

TJ: I really like living in the area that we do now. It is great for young professionals like us, but also has awesome school districts for when we begin to start a family. I also love the geography of North Carolina. You have plenty of places to escape to; the beach is 2 hours away and the mountains are just 3. I definitely would not mind branching out to other areas, but for where we are right now, Raleigh is great.

What do you love most about each other?

Shelby: I love a lot of things about TJ. He makes me laugh every day, supports every idea of mine, makes me feel at peace whenever I’m around him, and inspires me to be a better person!

TJ: I love Shelby’s integrity. She has always been honest, respectful, and is one of the nicest people I have ever met. I think it is why I gravitated to her so much when we first met. She is also the most ambitious person I have ever met. I see first hand how much time, energy, and passion she puts into everything she does. She is always working to better herself in all facets of life, never settling for just “okay”. I would say she inspires me to be better just as much I do for her. I think that is a reason we have connected so deeply and keep that connection, even almost 9 years into being together.

Where is your favorite place you’ve traveled together and where is one place you’d like to travel together?

Shelby: I really loved St. Lucia but I also loved the time we flew to Chicago for just one day then flew back that night. It felt so spontaneous and it was so fun exploring an entire city in a day with just the two of us! We also really love every time we visit Charleston though. Next year, I’d really love to visit France or Italy.

TJ: ST. LUCIA! This is a no-brainer. We went there for the honeymoon and it was amazing. The views, the villa, and not to mention the company, was absolutely amazing. I am excited about our upcoming trip to the Bahamas, but I know it could never top St. Lucia. I would love to travel to Central Europe with Shelby. I enjoy walking around a town or area and exploring, and I feel countries like Croatia, Austria, Switzerland have amazing views and would be fun to explore together.

How do you keep your relationship fun? Do each of you plan dates?

Shelby: It’s important for me to spend time with TJ when I’m not thinking about my work so normally we’ll go on walks, ride bikes, or try a brand new restaurant together. The other weekend we spontaneously ended up at a local brewery we’d never been to and it truly felt like we were on vacation sitting out on the patio listening to live music. We usually have fun no matter what we’re doing though although it definitely adds excitement when trying new things or going to new places.

TJ: This may seem boring, but I feel like all the time we are together is fun and exciting. Whenever we begin to have a conversation it usually ends up in laughing. One of the more exciting and fun things we have done was take a surprise day trip to Chicago. I got a really good deal on flights, and we literally left at 5am and explored the city for the entire day. We got home after midnight, exhausted, but reliving what an awesome day it was. I, myself, try to incorporate this type of fun and spontaneity in our lives as much as possible.

Thanks for reading! Happy almost Friday!

Top Linen Finds of the Season

If you follow along on Instagram, you’ve probably already seen a few of my recent linen favorites. Once the weather hits the 80’s, I gravitate toward fabrics that keep me cool and linen is the easiest and breeziest of them all! I’ve found the best high waisted linen shorts for just $32, pants, dresses, tops, and more. Scroll down below to see a few of my favorites and click on each product to be directed to the retailer.

Yesterday was my younger sister’s birthday so we all went out to eat at a local Thai/Sushi restaurant. My grandma is coming into town tomorrow from Rhode Island and then it’ll be a busy weekend filled with graduation festivities for my sister but I’m excited to spend some time with the family. Anyways, let’s get into some of the best linen finds of the season…

The Best of Linen:

This blue linen midi dress shown above is the perfect thing to pack up for a trip to the beach thanks to it’s lightweight fabric, midi length to keep it from blowing up on a windy day, and the fact that it can be dressed up or down! I dressed it down this time with the same sneakers I’ve worn non-stop lately and a wide-brim hat!

And just to share a few other recent linen pieces I’m loving:

Sunday Six Vol. 3

Happy Sunday!

I just got inside after spending nearly all day in our back yard and it’s been the best weekend. I wanted to share my ‘Sunday Six’ because there are a bunch of things I’ve been loving lately, from food to home to style starting with my newest favorite coffee shop.

Most Popular of the Week:

Thanks A Latte

One of my favorite parts about where we moved is being super close to Thanks a Latte, a local coffee shop in Holly Springs. It’s not only a coffee shop though… it has tons of gifts perfect for just about any occasion: weddings, Mother’s Day, birthdays, etc. My favorite orders: Vanilla Latte w/ Almond or Oat milk, Lavender Lemonade, and a white chocolate chip/cinnamon scone delivered from another favorite of mine, La Farm Bakery. TJ loves ordering the ‘H Town’. Thanks A Latte is my peaceful spot where I can get a lot of work done in a short amount of time due to how calming and positive the environment is. I LOVE it so much. You’ll also want to be besties with all of the baristas.

Smoked Mozzarella Salad at Whiskey Kitchen

If you haven’t tried the Smoked Mozzarella Salad at Whiskey Kitchen in downtown Raleigh yet, you need to! It’s so refreshing on a hot day and, once I have one, I crave it for days afterwards. It is SO delicious. I also love their ‘Cracklin Biscuits’ and ‘Wedge Taters’.

Free People Colorful Maxi Dress

I recently found this maxi dress on major sale on Free People’s website and couldn’t pass up on the deal. It is regularly $148 but on sale for $69 and being sold full price on other websites. The colors are what sold me but the dress has an overall very loose fit so it would be perfect as a beach cover-up or resort wear!

My New Make-up & Skincare Routine

I’ve talked about this before but a couple of weeks ago, I decided to change up my entire make-up and skincare routine. I’ve been reading more into ‘clean beauty’ and am slowly transitioning, throwing away a lot of my older products. This all started because my skin was really broken out a couple of weeks ago and I had no idea what exactly was the main cause but it motivated me to learn more about what I use.

For the past two weeks, my morning skincare consists of this serum followed by this moisturizer. I then use this brush to apply my SPF 15 foundation. I still use my regular blush and bronzer but I’ve noticed that by using a mineral foundation, my skin stays much more clear and healthy. My nighttime skincare routine includes this face wash, followed by this serum (every other night) and this moisturizer. I’m still on the hunt for the best eye cream so suggestions are welcome! Also, if you are wanting to try any TULA products, you can get 20% off any order of $50+ with the code ‘SHELBY20’.

Wide-Leg Linen Pants

I am currently going through a major linen phase. Everything from dresses to shorts to pants to throw blankets, I clearly have an obsession. However, with the temps warming up, there really is nothing more easy and breezy than linen fabric. These pink pants that I ordered are so fabulous with their high waist fit and tie waist detail plus they look so chic with just about anything (and are only $40!!!). Mine are a US 2 for reference. I loved them so much that I ordered a pair of these lilac linen shorts and wore them all day today!

Field and Fleur Candles

I recently had a couple of these Field and Fleur candles delivered and they might be the best candle I’ve ever smelled. They are pricey but they last a long time and come in a cute woven jar as shown above on my coffee table! You really can’t go wrong with any of the scents but I do know that the Blue Seaside and Coconut Rose both smell incredible!

What I’m Wearing:

Summer Cardigan (size S) || Dyed Denim Skirt (XS) || Oversized Thermal Tee || Perforated Slip-on Sneakers (available in white here)

Happy Thursday! Another warm spring day, another casual easy breezy outfit. This thermal tee arrived in the mail yesterday and I can’t explain to you how soft it is. I love it for days where I want to look somewhat like a human but still want to be super comfortable. I’m also wearing my everyday sneaks – I seriously wear them every single day. This dyed denim skirt is back in stock in sizes XS-M.

I’ve been trying to post more of my “every day” outfits a few times each week for a change. The quality isn’t the best with me taking these with my phone in a mirror but they get the job done I suppose.

I’ll be posting a fun blog post later today so check back to see what it’s about… hint: snacks.

10+ Of My Go To Vegetarian-Friendly Snacks

The other day I asked what type of posts you all liked to see on here due to the fact that I’ve been all over the place lately. The feedback I received was also all over the place 🙂 so that is what you’ll be seeing more of on here! Home, style, snacks, and more. Today, I’m sharing my go-to snacks with all of them being vegetarian-friendly. When my kitchen is out of nutritious and delicious snacks, it affects my entire life. I get headaches, can’t focus, and feel very blah. But when the kitchen is flowing with snacks, I’m more productive, have more energy, and am in a more positive mood. While I’m not entirely a vegetarian (I love seafood and chicken mini’s way too much), my diet is probably 90% meatless. So, let’s get into my 10+ go-to snacks…

Avocado Toast.

Saving the best for first, avocado toast is a staple for me. I just toast some whole wheat bread, grab a bowl to mix in my avocado, lemon juice, extra virgin olive oil, salt, and pepper. I also always top it with ‘Everything but the Bagel’ seasoning of course but when I’m feeling extra fancy, I’ll top it with fresh tomato slices and feta cheese. YES, so good!

Peanut Butter Toast with Banana Slices.

This one is also a staple… The most simple snack but I grew to love peanut butter and bread in college because it was quick, inexpensive, and very filling! My most favorite type of peanut butter is the ‘Smart Balance – Crunchy’ which is very hard to find, unfortunately. Adding the banana slices on top with maybe some coconut chips makes it taste like a smoothie on toast.

Melodious Blend (Trader Joe’s).

This microwaveable or stove-top bag contains red lentils, green lentils, tomatoes, and green garbanzo beans with a little bit of olive oil! I usually just put a bag in the microwave, top with salt and pepper, and save the rest for a later day (it comes with a lot!). I like this because it’s easy, fast, and I feel like I’m getting good nutrients.

Tzatziki Dip or Hummus with Cucumbers, Peppers, or Carrots.

One of my favorite foods in the world is hummus. One of these days, I’m going to go to Greece but, for now, the grocery store hummus will do. I also love the Cucumber/Tzatziki dip from Trader Joe’s to dip baby bell peppers, cucumber slices, and carrots in. When I’m out of the baby bell peppers, I slice up regular bell peppers and it’s such a delicious snack.

My Everyday Smoothie.

I usually have this as my first meal of the day but whenever I don’t, I frequently find myself eating as a snack in the afternoon. I know this one is not realitistic as a snack if you’re in an office all day but you’ve got to try it at least on the weekends! I’ve tried a lot of different recipes and have perfected my own recipe that I make over and over again. I add frozen mixed berries, frozen mango chunks, frozen (or fresh) slices of banana (usually half of one), Vanilla Tone it Up protein powder, unsweetened almond milk, and use this blender to mix it all. I always top it with this granola that I am so addicted to. I really need to start buying that in bulk.

Greek Yogurt with Granola.

One of the most simple snacks I reach for is vanilla (or blueberry, or strawberry) greek yogurt with, again, the granola I’m addicted to. I recently tried Kite Hill’s dairy free yogurt made with almond milk and, while it definitely has a slightly different taste, I really love it!

Israeli Couscous Salad.

(inspired by my grandma’s recipe) This snack is good if you have some meal prep time. If you make a big batch of it, you’ll have enough for the next several days. The ingredients? Israeli Couscous, red bell pepper, red onion (usually a little less than half), green bell pepper, pine nuts, cucumber, olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt/pepper. Sometimes I’ll be in the mood to add feta cheese too but I love how refreshing and nutritious it tastes! It’s really nice to have on a hot summer day.

Mixed Nuts.

Another one of my quickest snacks is mixed nuts. Anything with pistachios, almonds, and pecans is my favorite combo. I really love the Omega Trek Mix from Trader Joe’s but I’d be okay with a bag of pistachios too.

Salsa and Chips.

I can’t believe I didn’t have this one up at the top but, on most days, I’d say you find me eating chips and salsa in between meals. My favorite salsa is usually the freshest salsa (or corn salsa) at your regular grocery store (Harris Teeter or Lowe’s Food for us), pico de gallo style with usually some sort of organic tortilla chips or even Trader Joe’s black bean and quinoa infused tortilla chips.

Hard Boiled Eggs with ‘Everything but the Bagel’ Seasoning.

Can’t get much more simple than this duo. If I’m in a hurry and need something that will keep me feeling full for a while, I’ll cut two hard boiled eggs and top with my favorite seasoning for a clean, quick snack.

Protein Bars.

Olly recently came out with a new plant-based protein bar and, although there is some sugar in it, they are really good and keep me feeling full for a while! My favorite is the berry crunch flavor but I also love the lemon. I tasted the chocolate/coconut (TJ’s favorite) and, while it was very good, it tasted too much like a dessert for me.

Caprese Salad.

Last but definitely not least, is caprese salad. Sometimes I’ll make a batch of caprese pasta salad, but if I’m not in the mood for that, I’ll cut slices of tomato, top with some basil, balsamic vinegar, mozzarella (I like the little ball shaped ones), salt and pepper. This is especially my favorite in the summer!

Yogurt Covered Pretzels.

Okay, this one is more of a treat but I had to include it because I’m constantly sneaking to the fridge to grab a few of these whenever we have them . I get the blueberry yogurt covered pretzels that are actually made by a company here in NC, Creative Snacks Co.! They are SO good, especially if you put them in the refrigerator.

That’s it! Hopefully this gives you some ideas of snacks to stock up on. As small as it sounds, snacks really do make a huge difference in my overall health, mood, and productivity. I’ll keep you posted on new ones if I find anything good. If you have any of your own suggestions, I’d love to add them to my list!

What I’m Wearing:

Lavender Linen Tie Waist Shorts (wearing size US 2) || Heathered Vintage Soft Tee (newer style here) || Summer Cardigan || Franco Sarto Loafer || Wrapped Handle Satchel Handbag

It’s a beautiful Wednesday and it’s supposed to get up to 85 degrees today! It’s finally feeling like spring and I’m soaking it in before it quickly turns to summer here in NC. Anyways, I recently found THE PERFECT spring/summer shorts. Affordable? Check. They’re just $32. Pretty colors? Check! They come in light grey/soft blue, a beautiful coral color, lavender (as pictured), and navy. Good length? These are actually the perfect length… not too short, not too long. You might want to go ahead and order a pair before they sell out. I am wearing the US 2 for reference.

It’s the second day of May and I’m in productive mode over here. I got my morning workout completed, got ready for the day, and have a bunch of work to do for the rest of the day. I’m hoping I can sneak in some time on the deck and an evening walk with Colbie & TJ to enjoy the weather. I downloaded an app called ‘In Moment’ that tracks your time wasted on social media and so far, it’s working. It’s rather difficult when part of your job is social media but I’m training myself to make the most of my time while using it.

Happy Wednesday!

Looking Back At April

April seriously felt like the shortest month this year so far, in my opinion. Actually, ever since this year started, the days and weeks seem to fly by. I think not being in an office all day long definitely makes time go by way quicker which is kind of sad! There are so many things I’m looking forward to in May and June though. My little sister is graduating this month and we’re taking a girl’s trip to the beach in between her graduation and when she starts working. TJ and I are also taking a mini vacation to somewhere we’ve never been before. Plus, May is our 12th month of being married which is crazy! I can’t believe we’ve already been married for almost a year!

Before we get into some april reflection, I wanted to share this beautiful maxi dress I found in Cameron Village at Madison. I can always count on Madison to have beautiful and unique dresses for great prices and I’ll probably wear this to my sister’s graduation actually. Anyways, if you’ve read my blog in the past, you might know that I’ve occasionally partnered with Land Rover Cary to test out their latest vehicles. This past weekend we tested out the newest full size Range Rover and it was incredible. Like usual, we didn’t want to give it back. My favorite features included the heads up display so I can instantly know the speed limit at all times, the overall smoothness and comfort of the ride, and, as always, the exterior design with the floating roofline. I also loved the gesture enabled sunroof blind where you can just wave your arm back to open up the sunroof blind. I’m still a huge fan of the Discovery Sport too though which is about a third of the cost and still very nice.

A few highlights of April: camping at the lake with my family for the first time in years, enjoying many days and evenings out on our deck, getting into a more regular workout routine, and working with some great companies for PITP. We didn’t do any traveling or home projects for the month of April which was kind of nice but I’m itching to get back into it now. Our main projects left are: the kitchen, office, replacing upstairs carpet, and eventually decorating the dining room. My personal top two are the kitchen and office because those two are basically where I spend all my time.

Any low’s for April? April was a pretty positive month, overall. Over the past year or so, I have definitely developed some sort of anxiety though and this past month has definitely been a time where I’ve learned how to take control over it. I’m very thankful for our health though and never ever take that for granted. I also experienced some skin troubles where I had some acne flare ups. I since have decided to pay close attention to the ingredients in all of my skin products and have been trying out a bunch of new ones which I look forward to sharing in about a month!

I hope you all have a great start to the new month! If you have any occasions coming up, you’ve got to stop in to Madison in Raleigh. I was honestly really impressed with their new arrivals and I’m one to usually shop online only.

xo, Shelby

Thank you to Land Rover Cary and Cameron Village for sponsoring this post.

Sunday Six

Happy Sunday!

We just got back from a friend’s fiesta birthday party and I’m a little sad that the weekend is over already. This one flew by extra fast for some reason. Anyways, I’m sharing six things I’ve been loving lately, from skincare to books to clothing, starting with a cookbook that I picked up a couple of months ago but didn’t actually get into until recently.

100 Days of Real Food: Fast & Fabulous

I found this book while wandering aimlessly through Target one day and it’s written by a mom who wanted her and her family to eat less processed food. The recipes in this book look delicious, healthy, and most importantly, easy! I’ve always wanted to eat a diet full of real and familiar ingredients so this book is encouraging, especially seeing recipes with just three ingredients! I’m already planning to try cooking some of the recipes this weekend including the Roasted Summer Veggie Salad and the Feta and Avocado Pasta Salad.

Coola Sunless Tan Anti-Aging Face Serum

I’ve recently talked about an oil that I used as a sunless tanning face product but I’ve recently tried something even better! Each morning I’ve applied the Coola Sunless Tan Anti-Aging Face Serum on my face followed by the Tula Probiotic Gel Cream and I love it! The color is way more natural than what I am used to and the serum is so lightweight… I genuinely look forward to my morning skincare routine each day now. I’ve only been using it for one week but I’ll let you know my thoughts after about a month of using it. It’s definitely a splurge but it’s a brand you can trust when it comes to safe and non-toxic ingredients.

High-waisted Bikinis

With a few beach trips on the schedule for May, I’ve been browsing the swimwear sections online and I can’t seem to drift away from the high-waisted style. Urban Outfitters is also having a 25% off swimwear sale today. Here are a few I have my eye on:

Dark Chocolate Drizzled Sea Salt Popcorn

The other weekend my older sister visited and my family went camping. She had brought me a bag of her favorite popcorn that she kept from the holidays and since then it’s been our favorite dessert! Apparently it can be hard to find in stores when it’s not around the holidays but I discovered that you can order it on Amazon and my life is complete.

Sole Society Textured Clutch

I recently ordered this clutch that I plan on using all spring/summer long and I love the size, texture, and color which all make it such a versatile accessory. It’s not too bad of a price either. If you’re wanting something a bit less neutral, it also comes in a bright pink!

Tone it Up Daily Toning Moves

I feel like I’ve talked non-stop about Tone it Up lately but I recently started adding on the daily moves to my normal workouts each day and it makes such a difference and only takes about 15 extra minutes! These moves are free to see in the app too so anyone can have access to them! The Tone it Up community is releasing their 2018 Bikini Series Challenge next Monday which is an 8-week long workout challenge in case you’re interested in joining in! You can read more about it here.

I hope you had a great weekend! It’s kind of crazy that we’re about to head into the 5th month of the year after tomorrow. Tomorrow I’ll be sharing some monthly reflection and what I’m looking forward to most about May.

Personal Favorite Coffee Table Books

Ever feel like browsing Pinterest but not in the mood to stare at a screen? That’s where my “coffee table books” come in handy! Before all of these beautiful and inspiring images were circling around the internet, they were published in big books that usually would be found on someone’s coffee table or shelves. One of my favorite ways to style any space in a home is to use books whether that be on a mantle, on a tv console, shelves, or coffee and side tables. If you have any coffee table books in your own home, you know what I’m talking about. But have you ever actually taken the time to relax and read one? I’m not going to lie, I have not read every book that sits in my living room; however, there are a certain few that I repeatedly go back to for inspiration when I’m I need of a little escape. Seriously, if you can’t travel, the next best thing is one of these books! My favorites include topics ranging from home to style and food to travel.

I tried to narrow down some of my favorite coffee table books and, while it wasn’t easy, here are 5 that I open over and over again.

Blue and White Style

I think the name gives this one away but it’s a must have for anyone who is inspired by the colors blue and white. The interior and exterior inspo styles range from mediterranean to Moroccan to farmhouse and the pages are filled with the most inspiring, beautiful photos of blue/white decor from a variety of cultures along with some information written about the history of different styles and decor. Wallpapers, linens, bathtubs, staircases, tablescapes, florals, beachhouses, and outdoor living are just some of the ideas you’ll get inspired for with this book. I also love the pop of color the actual book gives for any area of your home!

Outside In

This book is a favorite because 1) it’s huge and has a beautiful cover 🙂 and 2) it’s pages are filled with architecture inspired by the outdoors. If you love gardens, you’ll want to add this book to your collection. This book also features many photos of interiors but they all have one thing in common: they overlook gardens or rivers or other beautiful landscapes. Your outdoor living Pinterest dreams in a book is basically what this is. The pages and photos are huge too so it’s a great conversation piece to add to your coffee table!

The Inspired Room

This book might be in my top 2. The Inspired Room is written by a home blogger and is actually very, very helpful when it comes to creating home spaces that you love! This book contains a lot of words v. photos compared to some of the other books but I love how inspiring it is while also teaching you how to create a “retreat” in your own home. Melissa, the author, talks about how you can make it so that your home feels like an actual retreat when you go on vacation and breaks the pages up into categories including entryways, living room/dining room, kitchen/pantry, and more; however, she gets you thinking differently and calls the spaces “first impressions” instead of entryway, “a place to gather” instead of dining/living room, “a space that nourishes” instead of kitchen and pantry, “a room to refresh” instead of bedrooms and bathrooms. This book will help you add purpose to each space in your house and I absolutely love it.

Love Real Food

This is not a typical “coffee table book” because it’s basically a cookbook but I absolutely love it! If you’re wanting to eat a more vegetarian diet, this book contains over 100 vegetarian favorites that will nourish the body and have you feeling great! The book is broken up into categories including: breakfasts, salads, soups, happy hour, dinners, sweet treats, and extras and most pages contain tips, cooking cheat sheets, and helpful recipe lists. If you love cooking or just are curious about more meatless options, this book is for you!

Timeless Style

I’m not sure why I am so inspired by large, glossy photos of people’s homes from all over but I love how this book is categorized by different styles including: glamour, authentic, chic, classic, natural, relaxed, and organic. Each photo is taken of an actual project the interior designer/author worked on so it features little write-ups about why they used what they did including farmhouses in Tennessee, beach house near Charleston, and many more of her most memorable projects. This book is huge and has a neutral soft gray cover making it a perfect decor piece for your own home!

My Spring Style Staple

If there is one staple in my closet I’ve worn the most these past few months, it’s this denim jacket from Urban Outfitters. I’ve worn it over dresses, with skirts, shorts, pants, white jeans, even leggings when traveling. It’s made by Levi’s, my favorite denim brand, and I’m wearing a size small for reference. Another item I’ve worn on repeat lately has been this pink tie front shirt! I absolutely love the quality and the loose, casual, laidback fit. We stopped by one of our favorite local lakes, Lake Crabtree, the other weekend before grabbing a bite to eat and it made me miss living over in that area!

You might have seen me share these shorts quite a few times on Instagram here and here but they’re just my favorite lately! The color is so unique and I love the ‘paper bag’ style. I also found these at UO… I can always count on them for having the most unique yet stylish finds.

I hope you all are having a great week! I feel like this one has flown by too quickly for me to get everything I need to get done! I have been using this notepad to organize my daily tasks though and it has made a difference.
